Berlin, the largest city and capital of Germany, holds the distinction of being both the most populous city in the European Union, within its city limits, and the second most populous urban area in Germany after the Ruhr. With a population of approximately 3.7 million residents, Berlin is also the state capital of Brandenburg, situated adjacent to Potsdam, the capital of Brandenburg. Furthermore, the Berlin-Brandenburg capital region, encompassing the city and its surroundings, is home to around 6.2 million people, making it the third-largest metropolitan region in Germany, following the Rhine-Ruhr and Rhine-Main regions.

At 114,8 metres, the Müggelberg is the highest (natural) mountain in Berlin.

• Brandenburg Gate: The Brandenburg Gate is a symbolic landmark of Berlin and a remnant of the Berlin Wall. It is an impressive example of neoclassical architecture.
• Reichstag: The Reichstag is the seat of the German Bundestag. Visitors can climb the dome of the Reichstag building and enjoy a panoramic view of the city.
• Berlin Wall: Although most of the Berlin Wall has been demolished, there are still sections that remain as memorials. The most famous is the East Side Gallery, a painted section of the wall.
• Museum Island: The Museum Island is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is home to five impressive museums: the Pergamon Museum, the Bode Museum, the New Museum, the Old Museum and the Old National Gallery.
• Checkpoint Charlie: Checkpoint Charlie was one of the most famous border crossings between East and West Berlin during the Cold War. Today it is an important historical site with a museum showing the history of the division of Berlin.
• Berlin Wall Memorial: This memorial offers a comprehensive insight into the history of the Berlin Wall. Visitors can explore remains of the Wall, watchtowers and exhibitions.
• Potsdamer Platz: Potsdamer Platz was once a busy transport hub that was destroyed during the Second World War. Today it is a modern district with skyscrapers, shopping centres, cinemas and restaurants.
• Tiergarten: The Tiergarten is Berlin's largest park and offers a green oasis in the middle of the city. Here visitors can walk, cycle, picnic and visit various sights such as the Berlin Zoo and Bellevue Palace.
